What is MenB?
Meningococcal B (Men-B) can cause invasive meningitis, with a mortality rate as high as 10%; one in five patients may suffer serious long-term complications, including blindness, deafness and intellectual impairment, and may even require amputation! Meningitis is like an invisible killer, lurking in one in ten people, and can be fatal within a single day of onset! As the symptoms are similar to those of a cold, it is difficult for parents to detect; often, they only realise something is wrong once their child develops purpura all over their body – by which time it is already too late!
According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, vaccination is effective in reducing meningococcal infections and boosting children's immunity, helping to fight off meningococcal B (Men-B) infections. Parents should prepare their children to reduce the chance of infection!
