IQ tests are a set of assessment tools used to analyse a person's cognitive abilities. In fact, IQ tests are not just for assessing intelligence. By using internationally standardised assessment tools, a child's abilities in all areas can be comprehensively assessed and understood.
In Hong Kong, a place where Cantonese is the primary language, there is currently a highly persuasive and widely recognised intelligence assessment – the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence. This scale divides a child's abilities into four main categories for analysis:

Why is it the most credible and recognised? Because in this scale, we collect and analyse data from local children, making it the closest measure for analysing the abilities of students in their school years.

Children of what age are suitable for an IQ test?
Actually, for people of different ages, we have different types of IQ tests for them to take. Basically, there are IQ tests available for ages 0 to 99. However, it's worth mentioning that development and learning abilities are very rapid during the early childhood stage. We generally believe that children's development becomes more stable after the age of six. The Hong Kong Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence, for example, is only administered after the age of six.
Generally speaking, students differ in their intellectual abilities. Sometimes, some students experience difficulties or problems with their intellect. After completing assessments, we can then provide them with suitable educational approaches.
Sometimes, if a child has developmental issues, we consider whether they need to attend a special school.

After the assessment, the psychologist will write an assessment report based on the child's performance and provide a detailed explanation to the parents.
Before the assessment, it is advisable to let the child understand the assessment arrangements to keep them relaxed. The night before the assessment, please ensure your child gets sufficient sleep to avoid affecting their performance due to lack of rest.
