Paediatric illnesses
Baby's allergy prevention starts with diet during pregnancy.
As the saying goes, "At three years old, so they will be at eighty," in reality, from the moment of conception, adequate preparation and planning by parents can significantly influence their baby's lifelong health. A balanced diet lays a strong foundation for the pregnant woman's body, which is crucial for the health and development of the fetus.
It is ideal for expectant mothers to adopt a healthy and balanced diet for 3 months to 1 year before pregnancy, to prepare their bodies in the best possible condition for pregnancy. Once pregnancy begins, to ensure the baby's healthy growth, it is even more important to focus on nutrient absorption and adjust lifestyle habits. During pregnancy, mothers must eat healthily, while also being careful to avoid overeating. Pay attention to consuming sufficient and balanced nutrients in your daily diet, such as calcium, iron, protein, vitamins, folic acid and omega-3, which are essential for fetal development. However, it's important to avoid foods containing alcohol, caffeine, high fat, additives, high salt, and high sugar, and to drink plenty of water to reduce the chance of gestational diabetes and high blood pressure. Mothers who smoke must quit immediately to avoid affecting the baby's health. During pregnancy, you should also avoid foods that can easily cause allergies, which can reduce the chance of your child developing allergies after birth.
After a baby is born, regardless of whether you are breastfeeding, mothers must eat well to replenish what they have lost during childbirth. A balanced diet aids postpartum recovery, and mothers should obtain sufficient nutrition from four types of food: dairy and calcium-rich foods (e.g., fresh milk), protein-rich foods (e.g., meat, fish, chicken, eggs, and dried beans), grains (e.g., rice, wheat), and vegetables and fruits. Breastfeeding mothers should also avoid passing irritating substances to their infants through breast milk, which could cause allergic reactions.
Examples of foods to avoid during pregnancy:
- Foods very high in Vitamin A
- Peanuts and peanut products
- Fish containing mercury, such as shark, marlin, swordfish, etc.
- Caffeinated drinks: such as coffee, tea, chocolate, cola, etc.
- Smoking, alcohol
- Pesticide-contaminated fruits and vegetables
- Eat more canned food
