Selective eating does not cause autism, but this condition is quite common among children with autism.
AutismThere are many reasons for children's picky eating, such as being accustomed to eating certain types of vegetables. If they are suddenly asked to switch to another, they will feel very resistant. They may also be repulsed by the colour, texture, or shape of food, and therefore refuse to eat it.
I once encountered an extreme case: a three-year-old child who would only eat choi sum, salmon, and rice at every meal, ignoring all other foods. To ensure the child was fed each meal, the mother could only cook these three ingredients, and additionally had to consider how to get the child to accept other foods, with the aim of gradually improving their eating habits. Otherwise, if the child's picky eating becomes more severe, it will affect their growth and social development, leading to far-reaching consequences.
