Allergic rhinitis
My child's allergic rhinitis isChildren's allergiesCommonly known as hay fever, rhinitis can occur at any age. The causes are usually related to environmental factors and a family history of allergies. We most commonly see signs of rhinitis in children, starting with a frequent runny nose, sneezing, and even phlegm sounds during sleep, which can also affect sleep quality.
Allergic rhinitis symptoms
The symptoms of allergic rhinitis are actually very common. Children often sneeze when they wake up, have a runny nose, rub their nose, make gurgling noises from phlegm, toss and turn all night, and lack energy in the morning. Severe allergic rhinitis can even lead to nosebleeds, thick nasal discharge, and even other cold symptoms like fever and coughing. If you experience these symptoms, please see a doctor you know as soon as possible.
Allergic rhinitis treatment
Allergic rhinitis is essentially a sensitive nose. Its causes and treatment methods are related, and most of the time, doctors will first review a child's medical history, history of illness, and family history. They will also consider environmental factors and need to communicate with the family. We can initially provide allergy medication to stop nasal discharge and nasal drops for immediate treatment for the child.
Prevention is certainly better than cure. We will also provide advice to the family on improving the home environment and personal hygiene. Factors such as whether anyone in the household smokes or if there are any cats or dogs as pets can also affect the recurrence of a child's allergic rhinitis. If a child's allergic rhinitis cannot be cured in the long term, we may prescribe preventive medication, including commonly used saline nasal sprays or nasal steroids, for the child to use for a period of time to help improve their condition and observe to what extent it can be improved.
Of course, we also do not recommend the long-term use of medication. For the most part, we hope to regularly assess the child's actual situation to see if there is improvement and to manage it.
