Get vaccinated to prevent infection!

Winter has arrived in the blink of an eye, and the rotavirus, which strikes fear into the hearts of parents, is already poised to enter its peak infection period. This virus, which appears wheel-shaped under an electron microscope, is one of the most common causes of childhood diarrhoea worldwide, so be sure to take care to avoid your child getting infected!

The most common infectious disease in newborns aged zero to one year is acute gastroenteritis. This is because they tend to put their hands or small objects into their mouths. If these carry pathogens (such as rotavirus), it can lead to gastroenteritis. The main symptoms include fever, vomiting, and watery diarrhoea, which usually lasts for 3-7 days. Abdominal pain is also a common symptom.

Generally, healthy individuals recover from rotavirus gastroenteritis on their own, although young children can occasionally develop severe dehydration. It is important to note that patients do not develop lifelong immunity after recovery, nor are there antiviral drugs to treat rotavirus, therefore patients must ensure they consume sufficient fluids to avoid dehydration.

As rotavirus is mainly spread through the faecal-oral route, it can also be transmitted by drinking or eating contaminated water or food, and by contact with contaminated surfaces. Therefore, rotavirus outbreaks are more likely to occur in institutional settings such as daycare centres.

To prevent children from contracting rotavirus, parents must maintain good personal, food, and environmental hygiene, especially in areas where diapers are changed for newborns. Breastfeeding can also transfer antibodies from mother to infant.

A doctor giving a child a vaccination

[41
post-11095","parenting_info","type-parenting_info","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-child-vaccine
["GET
